How to choose AI support for your online store: a 2026 checklist

Support

Most AI support tools demo well. The differences show up three weeks later, in the bills and in the replies your customers actually receive. Six questions separate the field before you sit through a single demo.

Where does a reply get its facts? A tool that only reads your help pages can explain your return policy. It cannot say where order 5512 is. Ask whether the AI reads live order, product and customer data from your platform, or a knowledge base copy of your site.

How does the price scale? Message credits, per-conversation billing and per-resolution fees all grow with your volume. A flat plan does not. We compared the models in per-resolution vs flat pricing, and the short version is: metered pricing is fine at low volume and painful at exactly the point your store starts doing well.

What happens at the cap? Some tools stop answering when you hit the monthly limit. If the answer is “the bot switches off”, ask what your customers see that day.

Who presses send? Auto-sent replies are a trust decision, not a feature. Look for a tool that drafts the reply for your operator first and earns autosend on routine cases later.

Does it speak your customers’ languages? If you sell in more than one country, check whether every plan includes it, and whether the operator can review a Czech reply in English.

What does setup actually involve? Self-serve is fine for a single store. A multi-store portfolio deserves a managed option, where someone sets it up, tunes it and stays accountable.

Run any shortlist through those six questions and it gets short quickly. Sticker prices tell you the least: the real spread is in what AI customer support costs in 2026, where the same month of tickets can bill anywhere from one flat fee to four figures.
